DÉJÀ VU! ..... ..... Today I had a déjà vu moment! I was leaving work (us workers uaually take the back doors 😉) and I was hit by the overwhelming feeling and smell of fall 🍂 along with brick walls and badge access doors. For a moment I couldn't remember if I was leaving Reno or Billings. 🤔 Then I realized I was in Billings and even more importantly I realized how much I loved my job 💊, my coworkers, and how excited I am to be here. ❤ I thought, even after a long, busy day, I'm not exhausted in the same way. Only a few weeks in, I think about ways to improve my own workspace, little projects, and I imagine myself here 5 years from now, 🏨 loving my job knowing my coworkers and living the life of my dreams. I feel like I have a voice again, that people care, and above all, that I can make a difference. ..... ..... By advice for those people lost is to continue forging ahead. 👣 It may be long and it may be hard, you may have days where it doesn't feel like it's worth it, but it is. Always try to remain positive, take the time you need to deal with each phase, and always be true to yourself. 😍 If a relationship, situation, or dream no longer suits you have the courage to walk away. I guarantee you are going to feel ALONE most of the time but the second you realize alone is your happy place everything else will fall into place. MOURNING THE LOSS OF ONE VERSION OF YOUR LIFE. ..... ..... Recently my confidence has been shaken. I doubt myself with every step I take and that's been really hard because I've never been a self-doubter. As a scientist who can solve everything logically, and usually quite quickly, I get frustrated when I can't figure out and solve my own mental blocks and emotional issues as easily. I keep seeing my past failed mistakes and I assume I will repeat them; I feel a giant lump in my chest. When I think about it I haven't been in my own corner lately and that makes things impossible. ..... ..... The other day I had a talk with my mom, and another with some close friends, and I've realized that life really is whatever the h*ll we want to make it. I've talked about that we need to say screw it to society's ideas, our friend's and families ideas, of what our lives should be but I forgot about one thing. I've built a life in my head, the way I thought things should be. I've realized that my life isn't following that course and I am the one having a hard time letting go and focusing on the future. I feel like in a way I am mourning the loss of a life lost and I need to fully mourn before I can move forward. ..... ..... It might seem like one of those obvious revelations: "be yourself at whatever consequence, obviously taking into account the consequence", but honestly I've been very caught up in being what I want my life to be. I've had a few relationships I thought might lead to marriage/children and I thought I would at the least be married by now. I'm not saying that it's not going to happen, or that waiting isn't going to be worth it, but I am coming to terms with the fact that I really won't have it figured out by 30. I thought my life would be different, I thought I would be different, I thought a lot of things. And when we realize a vision can't come true, at least not the way we want it to, I think we forget to take the time to mourn the loss. Just as we mourn the loss of a friendship, career, job, etc. we need to also accept the fact that some things might not be and figure out where to go from there. ..... ..... #revelations #mourning #lostlife #failedplans
HEY BRI, IT'S BRI, CHILL THE H*LL OUT! ..... ..... There are likely a lot of factors that play into this but a few come to mind. First I've never felt settled, like ever. So I get REALLY upset with myself when I am 3 weeks into my new house and it's not 100% complete. I really want my house to feel like home and when it doesn't I get really down on myself. ..... ..... Second I get super down on myself when I just moved to a new city and I don't have a bunch of friends, as if it's like magic. I didn't have a great group of friends during residency aside from my co-residents. And in Reno I was starting to build friendships then I moved. ..... ..... Third I am super annoyed when I've worked hard for my career but still have issues just like the rest of us. Like seriously. The disappointment of life, the failed relationships and career moves, the sh*t we all have to deal with in regards to our childhoods, it's still all still sitting there waiting for us to wade through it. And just like every aspect of our lives we have to get up and fight for it. ..... ..... Sometimes it gets exhausting. Going to work and being the best we can be, trying to be better every day. Then we come home and actively have to try to treat our bodies better, eat right, workout, sleep, etc. even when we don't want to. We have to approach our relationships with so effort and energy and we have to reflect on almost every conversation we have, constantly trying to improve. As much as I get bored when I'm too settled I sometimes get so tired trying all the time. There isn't a second of my day when I'm not trying, except when I sleep. Maybe it's just my personality. Maybe I feel like I've checked out for so long, made some mistakes, so I'm trying to compensate for 3 years all at once and it's too much. ..... ..... MY FAITH HAS BEEN TESTED! ..... ..... I knew that moving to Billings wasn't going to be easy. The 6th move in 7 years, I'm mostly in a constant state of exhaustion. "Where are you from? Where did you go to school? Are you married? Where are you living?" With every person I meet it's the same questions, questions I've answered a million times. Sometimes people ask and I'm almost too drained to even answer. ..... ..... I'm slowly accumulating furniture for my place, some pieces failed and frustrated attempts (too big, too small)... one reason I'm so glad I'm DIYing/garage sale shopping a lot of my items. It's been disappointing because my house doesn't feel like 'home'. Not yet. And I'm not sure how to make it feel like home except to invite people over and make new memories here. ..... ..... I haven't been sleeping well and I dropped and broke my phone (likely a $200-$300 mistake). I haven't been paid yet - thank God for Friday! And I lost a camera charger in the move. The list goes on. ..... ..... BUT I do believe this is what a move is made of. Struggles. It always costs more than you anticipate. You always need to do more and spend more money and time thank you think. You feel the frustrations of being in a new place and quite often you feel alone. ..... ..... But I'm trying to roll with the punches. I am letting what is be and I am reassuring and supporting myself. Sure it costs more now to collect the things you need to live but in a month you won't have those bills anymore. The DIY is great for education for future projects and a possible extra source of income. And my job, only 2 weeks in, is shaping up to be one of the best places I've ever worked. If this is the toll I have to pay, if 3 years of barely keeping my head above water, set me ul for my forever place, well then I'll take it. And shout out to the wonderful people in my life who have made all of this so much easier! #bridoesmontana
DON'T LET THEM PUT YOU IN A BOX. ..... ..... When I first received this piece of advice I didn't understand the full impact of what it meant. It wasn't until I tried to step out of a box that I realized I was in one. Growing up in Montana I always felt conflicted because I love country music and cowboy boots but I also loved the LBGTQ community and hung out with every ethnicity besides my own. I loved art and suits, culture and music. I loved everyone and everything equally and I never felt the groups I was in were quite that same way. Needless to say I was in every, yet no, group. ..... ..... It wasn't until I tried to explore other careers that I was told I was supposed to be a pharmacist and nothing else. It wasn't until I wore Brooks Brothers dresses with Teva sandals that I realize it's strange to mix fashion and comfort. It wasn't until I hit walls and stopped being what the world needed me to be that realized I don't and never will fit into a box. ..... ..... I've thought a lot about boxes and my conclusion is that people want you in them because their world doesn't make sense without them. People need black and white, they crave control. Me on the other hand? I live for the gray area, I love the in-between. I am happiest slightly a mess, a little too much going on, and 5 minutes to pull myself together - Breakfast at Tiffany's anyone?! ..... ..... I recently spent 5 days with my good friend and his brother and at the end of trip my friend's brother described me as something I NEVER thought would be used to describe me - FREE SPIRIT. Wow! It kind of just hit me all at once. I've always, mostly unknowingly, led people, been an inspiration through my honesty and vulnerability, but I've always felt so confined myself. So my goal for this next year, as if I don't have 100 already, is to be more myself, free spirit Bri, and share more of my day-to-day life with you! I'm going to break all the rules, burn the box, and hopefully you will see and break yours too!
