Last year, I went to a salon and paid A LOT of money (~$150) to get my hair highlighted professionally for the first time.
I LOVE the color that she dyed it but it didn't last very long.
After a few short weeks, I felt like my roots were back to their natural dishwater blonde color. So I decided to save myself the money and time, and try to dye my hair at home.
It actually turned out really well. After watching my mom dye my hair for years, I was able to pretty much replicate the process! Here's how I did it!
A mixing bowel and brush
Dye (After trying a million colors, I've feel in love with Loreal Lightest Cool Ash Blonde. It makes me hair whiter and avoids those nasty yellow/brassy colors)
Developer (I used 30; it's the fastest lightening and it takes your hair 2-3 shades lighter, I'm not an expert on them but if you read the back they tell you which is best for the shade you are trying to achieve)
Optional: A color correcter and sealor( I used Clairol Kaleidocolors Powder Lightener in violet)
Optional: Deep conditioner (Review of some products I use at least once a month)
The best pictures I could get BEFORE of the roots. Now I know they aren't really that dark, but to me, I feel like that brassy, dirty blonde color is dark. Once I let my hair go more of it's natural color, and it looked horrible. I am a light, light blonde kind of gal! It just fits my pale skin and blue eyes :)
Here is everything I used. I made a chai tea with half & half (my favorite) to keep my caffeinated throughout! And my cell phone with some good music. It takes about an hour to do this.
** I would recommend doing this in a well ventilated area! Just be sure not to spill on the carpet. I did it in the bathroom with the fan on.
It might be kind of scary to put purple on your hair BUT I HATE yellow in my hair. And the opposite of yellow, on the color wheel, is purple. Purple is your friend if you want to go white blonde!
Amidst the dyeing
AFTER in the bathroom light
AFTER in the natural sunlight
A few days later... natural sunlight and bathroom light again. AFTER I styled it :)
What do you think? Let me know if you have any questions! I am horrible at explaining what I did.
